In 2017, I was commissioned by TCO London to create a series of illustrations for the BFI Flare campaign, supporting the identity for the festival’s 31st edition. My work formed a core visual layer of the campaign and was featured across a wide range of touchpoints throughout the festival such as OOH placements, banners, publications, social media assets, animations, and video elements, ensuring the illustrations were visible at every stage of the audience experience.
That year’s creative direction was rooted in a spirit of protest. BFI aimed to “take the temperature of the world,” and for 2017 the cultural moment called for imagery that echoed the activist energy of the 1980s Section 28 demonstrations. My illustrations contributed to this tone, helping articulate a bold, resistance-driven identity that aligned with the festival’s intention to reflect the social and political climate facing LGBTQIA+ communities.
